(Pinus monticola) Also known as Silver Pine, this five-needled native can be found from sea level up to 5,000 feet. The state tree of Idaho, the Western White Pine is prized for its soft, easily-worked and finely-textured wood. It can live for 400 years and can reach heights of 200 feet, though 130 is typical. While young, this fast-growing tree may grow up to 2 feet annually. Happiest in large open spaces, it grows in an attractive, pyramidal habit.
