Beautiful foliage

(Asarum caudatum) Evergreen perennial that spreads by rhizomes. Its attractive heart-shaped, bright-green leaves can form a thick understory ground cover (and often conceal its wild, cup-shaped flowers). Prefers moist soils in shady forests. Plants often appreciate some dappled morning sun, but do not perform well in intense heat. Wild Ginger’s roots can be eaten fresh or dried and ground as a ginger substitute, but is unrelated to culinary ginger (Zingiber officinalis).
